This is a simple guide to accessible transport, rail travel and train stations in the South, Central and Northern travel networks.

In particular, it is aimed at those disabled wheelchair users in these areas, and their possible use of the public transport system and the accessible train stations during the busy periods and beyond.

A leading ad campaign that changed the way people view disabilities

Due to the lack of accessible public transport facilities all over the UK, we had come up with numerous ways to make people aware of the daily struggles of those with disabilities.

Here is our most recent approaches that we have taken:

Advertising campaigns:

We took part in an OOH campaign as well as online advertising.

For our OOH campaign we used the rail system as a format of advertising as we believed rail stations is where the biggest issues are.

Once we decided where we were going to have our advertisement, we contacted a leading advertising company in Manchester- Exterion Media. This is where we purchased our rail advertising campaign.

For our online advertising scheme we worked with Dech. They helped us optimise our site, whilst promoting our services on various other sites.

What has our work done since?

Since our campaigns have taken place, we have been closely watching how this has affected the accessibility of disabled passengers on the rail system.

We have found that accessible shuttle buses are to serve many of the busy tourist sites in Basingstoke, starting at all busy train stations. They will be an adapted vehicle with a driver and trained assistant which are able to carry disabled passengers and multiple wheelchair users. They will be solely for disabled spectators, are free and do not need to be pre-booked.

Accessible shuttles will also operate between key National Rail termini in the UK where there are limited onward step-free journeys.

They will also run from transport hubs which are a significant distance away from venue entrances, park and-ride sites, remote accessible parking sites and coach parks.

Disabled passengers, more than others, need accurate and detailed information if they are to have the confidence to use public transport, particularly when using rail lines and train stations that are unfamiliar to them.
